ResinRush™ Formulation Guide

Ionic Stress-Induced Agarwood Resin Induction System

1. Formulation Objective

To develop a stable, injectable aqueous formulation combining ferric ions (Fe³⁺) and sodium ions (Na⁺) that induces controlled oxidative and osmotic stress in Aquilaria trees, triggering rapid oleoresin biosynthesis.

2. Core Formulation Composition

Baseline Formula (Standard Grade)

ComponentFunctionSpecification% w/v
Ferric Chloride (FeCl₃·6H₂O)Oxidative catalyst≥98% purity2–4%
Sodium Chloride (NaCl)Osmotic stress inducerFood/industrial grade5–8%
Distilled WaterCarrier solventстерile / deionizedq.s. to 100%
Citric Acid (optional)pH stabilizerAnalytical grade0.1–0.3%

3. Functional Chemistry

  • Ferric Chloride (FeCl₃)
    • Hydrolyzes in water → releases Fe³⁺ ions
    • Promotes:
      • ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species) formation
      • Oxidative stress signaling
      • Phenolic and resin precursor synthesis
  • Sodium Chloride (NaCl)
    • Increases osmotic pressure
    • Causes:
      • Cellular dehydration
      • Ion imbalance stress
      • Activation of defense metabolism
  • pH Dynamics
    • Optimal pH: 2.5 – 4.0
    • Maintains Fe³⁺ solubility and prevents precipitation

4. Manufacturing Process (GMP-Oriented)

A. Equipment Required

  • Stainless steel mixing tank (acid-resistant lining preferred)
  • Mechanical agitator (variable speed)
  • pH meter (calibrated)
  • Filtration system (5–10 micron)
  • HDPE or chemical-resistant storage containers

B. Step-by-Step Process

Step 1: Water Charging

  • Fill mixing tank with 70–80% of total distilled water volume

Step 2: Dissolution of Sodium Chloride

  • Add NaCl gradually under agitation
  • Mix until fully dissolved (clear solution)

Step 3: Addition of Ferric Chloride

  • Slowly add FeCl₃ while stirring
  • Maintain controlled addition to avoid localized overheating
  • Observe color change: light yellow → reddish-brown

Step 4: pH Adjustment

  • Measure pH
  • Adjust using citric acid (if needed)
  • Target: pH 2.5–4.0

Step 5: Volume Adjustment

  • Add remaining distilled water to final volume

Step 6: Filtration

  • Filter to remove particulates
  • Ensure smooth injectable consistency

Step 7: Packaging

  • Transfer to:
    • HDPE bottles (1L, 5L, 20L)
    • Industrial drums (200L)

Storage Recommendations:

  • Keep tightly sealed
  • Store away from direct sunlight
  • Avoid metal containers (corrosion risk)

7. Formulation Variants (R&D Extensions)

  • ResinRush™ Lite (Low Stress Version)
    • FeCl₃: 1–2%
    • NaCl: 3–5%
→ For young trees / sensitive plantations
  • ResinRush™ Max (High Impact Version)
    • FeCl₃: 4–5%
    • NaCl: 8–10%
→ For mature trees requiring aggressive induction
  • ResinRush™ Buffered Pro

8. Compatibility & Integration

Compatible With:

  • BarIno™ FusaPrime™ (pre-inoculation)
  • BarIno™ FusaTrinity™ (biological enhancement)
  • BarIno™ FusaBlaze™ (enzyme activation phase)

Not Recommended:

  • Direct mixing with live microbial inoculants (may inhibit viability)
  • High-alkaline solutions (precipitation risk)

9. Safety & Handling

  • Corrosive (due to FeCl₃ acidity)
  • Use:
    • Acid-resistant gloves
    • Eye protection
    • Proper ventilation

Spill Management:

  • Neutralize with sodium bicarbonate
  • Wash with large amounts of water

10. Industrial Scale Notes

  • Maintain batch consistency via standard SOPs
  • Use closed mixing systems for safety
  • Implement batch coding and traceability
  • Align with DENR / environmental compliance for Philippine operations

11. Patent Positioning

Core Claim Concept:
