AgarStart™ Field Application Guide

To pre-condition Aquilaria trees for enhanced resin induction using a controlled biochemical primer, reducing damage while improving resin yield and uniformity.

1. Target Trees

  • Species: Aquilaria malaccensis
  • Age: ≥ 4 years
  • DBH (Diameter at Breast Height): ≥ 8 cm

2. Materials Required

  • BarIno™ AgarStart™ solution
  • Hand drill or mechanical drill
  • Injection syringes or peristaltic pump
  • Tree plugs or parafilm (to seal drilled holes)
  • Gloves and safety goggles

3. Pre-Application Preparation

  1. Select healthy, actively growing trees.
  2. Inspect for disease or structural weakness; avoid stressed or sick trees.
  3. Prepare the solution: ready-to-use from the manufacturer; shake gently before use.
  4. Wear PPE (gloves, goggles) during handling and injection.

4. Drilling & Injection Protocol

  • A. Hole Placement
  • Spiral pattern around the trunk starting ~1 m above ground
  • Maintain 10–15 cm spacing between holes
  • B. Drilling Parameters
  • Depth: 5–7 cm
  • Angle: 30°–45° to the trunk surface
  • Hole diameter: 8–12 mm (adjust per drill bit availability)
  • C. Injection
  • Inject 10–15 mL of BarIno™ AgarStart™ per hole
  • Insert syringe tip fully and dispense slowly to avoid overflow
  • D. Hole Sealing
  • Seal each drilled hole with a plug or parafilm to prevent contamination and moisture loss

5. Timing & Environmental Considerations

  • Apply during early morning or late afternoon to reduce heat stress
  • Avoid application during heavy rain or drought conditions
  • Ideal temperature range: 20–30°C

6. Post-Application Monitoring

  • Monitor trees for early biochemical response (internal darkening, minor sap exudation)
  • Maintain plantation health: adequate water and nutrition
  • Plan follow-up induction steps using BarIno™ FusaPrime™ after 30–60 days

7. Safety & Handling

  • Avoid direct skin or eye contact
  • Wash hands thoroughly after application
  • Keep away from children and livestock
  • Dispose of any unused product according to local environmental regulations

8. Expected Results

TimeframeObserved Response
0–1 monthActivation of defense pathways, early phenolic buildup
1–2 monthsMicro-resin formation, tissue priming
3–6 monthsEarly resin accumulation, ready for next-stage microbial/fungal induction
6–12 monthsResin maturation, high-grade agarwood formation

9. Tips for Optimal Results

  • Ensure even hole distribution around the trunk
  • Avoid over-injection to prevent tissue stress
  • Combine with nutrient and irrigation management for best outcomes
  • Record each tree’s application date for monitoring and sequential induction scheduling
